Style Diary - Modern Retro Bathroom

Welcome to the first ‘style diary’ on the Wolfe Interiors pages - where I do a deep-dive into one of our latest renovation projects!

Today I’d like to share with you a fabulous bathroom make-over which originally started life as a rather dated room, which was not making the most of the light from the large window. Our brief was to include some elements of the ever-popular mid-century style, pops of strong colour, and to make the most of the natural light. Our clients also requested a contemporary free standing bath and, of course, essential storage.

As a structural feature, the chimney breast in the room had to remain intact, and so we created a stud wall to the left hand side to house the hidden toilet cistern and make that wall flush with the shower. This allowed us to also add some recessed storage shelves above the toilet, along with a recessed shelf into the shower area.

To finish, we used handmade encaustic green half and half tiles (Bert and May, Alalpardo tile) around the bath area, shower enclosure and above the sink and kept the rest of the freshly plastered walls light and neutral, allowing the natural light to bounce around the room.

The vanity sink unit was finished in Farrow and Ball ‘Charlottes Locks’ to contrast against the green and add another strong colour, also brought in with the accessories.

Contemporary style brushed brass free standing bath tap, basin tap, flush plate and concealed pipework shower were used. Brass IP44 rated wall light and ceiling pendant were added. Finally, the original floor boards were stripped back and varnished.
